Chevy Silverado: Why Its America’s Favorite Pickup Truck

The Chevy Silverado family is by far one of the most iconic ranges of automobiles in the United States. We would even go so far as to say that Chevrolet owes its renown and fame to the Silverado since the truck offers the American consumer more value than was imaginable in this price range. Chevy recently came out with the 2020 model for Silverado and suffice to say that people have raved about its capabilities and performance.

The automobile manufacture doesn’t hold back when it talks about the advantages and pros of owning this truck. They outrightly say that it’s America’s most long-lasting, fuel-efficient, and luxurious pick-up trucks – and we find it hard to disagree with them. Upon closer inspection, the 2020 Silverado stands far apart from its competitors to deliver a whole different automotive experience.

We decided to do a little digging ourselves to see if Chevrolet was blowing hot air or if there was any truth to the claims about the new Silverado. As it turns out, even the most outspoken Chevy critics have grudgingly admitted the quality of this new pickup. We think you will, too, once you see exactly what the truck offers.

Engine Specs, Transmission, and Performance

There’s no other way to assess a car’s worth than its performance specifications. Honestly, there would be no point in owning a car accessory if the car didn’t have an engine to make it work. For this reason, it only makes sense that we talk about the engine specs for the 2020 Silverado.

Chevrolet released six different trims for the pick-up truck, allowing people to decide what specifications they want based on their needs. Of course, the pricing differs across trims with the work trim as the cheapest of the lot, with increasing prices ending at the High-Country trim. Whichever trim you pick, you will have the option to choose between a V-6, V-8, a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, or a diesel inline-six engine.

For someone looking for more detail, the engine specifications are as follows:

Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I-6

  • 23 mpg city/33mpg highway
  • 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • 10-speed automatic transmission
  • 9300-lb towing capacity

This engine is available in the LT, RST, LTZ, and High-Country trims.

6.2L EcoTec3 V8

  • 420 hp and 460 lb.-ft of horsepower
  • 10-speed automatic transmission
  • 13,400lb. towing capacity

Available in the high-country, LTZ, Trail Boss, RST and Custom Trail Boss trims.

5.3L V8 Engine

  • 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft of torque
  • 8-speed automatic transmission

This is the standard engine for LT Trail boss, LTZ and high-country trims.

4.3L V6 Engine

  • 285 hp and 305 lb.-ft of horsepower
  • 6-speed automatic transmission

This is the standard engine for WT, Custom, and Custom Trail boss.

Safety Mechanisms

Chevrolet has outdone itself with the extensive updates it’s made to the safety mechanisms in the car. Looking at the Silverado, it seems like even American manufacturers have figured out how to leverage technology to improve the driving experience for the consumer. We’ll list down all the possible safety features you can find across all the trims, but it’s important you know that none of these trims contain all the features.

The Chevy Silverado offers you:

  • 6-airbags
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Bed-view camera
  • Daytime running lamps
  • Forward collision alerts
  • Front pedestrian braking
  • Front and rear parking assist
  • HD surround vision
  • Lane change alerts
  • Lane departure warnings
  • Rear cross-traffic alerts
  • Tire pressure monitoring system

This is one of the most extensive ranges of safety features across all manufacturers including, Hyundai, Toyota, and Nissan. The people at Chevrolet have really gone all out this time around.

The Interiors

Moving on to the car interior, and we warn you – you will be amazed. While the truck seems to have been designed for work crews, Chevrolet didn’t use that as an excuse to skimp out on the luxury offered by the new Silverado. As it stands, the car offers an expansive range of comfort features that make every ride a luxurious one for passengers and drivers.

Some of the notable features of the interior are:

  • Driver seat with lumbar support
  • 2-speaker audio system
  • 3.5” driver information center
  • 40/20/40 split-bench front seat with under-seat storage
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities
  • Bluetooth for phone connectivity
  • Chevrolet connected access capabilities
  • Chevrolet infotainment 3 premium system with navigation and 8” touchscreen
  • Cruise control
  • Dual automatic climate control

Additionally, the car can be equipped with all leather-interior, plush carpeting and floor mats, and a wide range of other amenities. Whether you’re going for a cruise down the highway or you’re going onto rugged terrain, there’s nothing that the new Silverado can’t handle. When you go up the line of trims, you’ll unlock a bunch of features that make all rides the smoothest experience of your life.

Some Things to Bear In Mind

While the Silverado is fundamentally made to handle touch terrains and offers greater control over all kinds of roads – you need to take care of the interiors if you hope to enjoy its comforts. See, while Chevrolet has offered a long list of comfort features – none of these will offer much comfort if you don’t keep your car clean. If you’re going for one of the pricier trims, it becomes even more important for you to watch out for stains, grime, and car hygiene.

In these cases, it’s just better to take pre-emptive measures to sustain the beauty of your car interiors. With some minor investments, you can make the most of the amenities offered by Chevrolet Silverado for years to come. While Chevrolet’s automotive ingenuity makes for a smooth ride, your care will make for an equally pleasant passenger experience whenever you head out.
